Childrey to Abingdon

Restoration projects in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, include Shrivenham, Childrey, Challow, Stockham, Elm farm and Grove. This booklet describes some of these projects and gives a description of the 1993 condition of the canal from Childrey to Abingdon. Includes a list of all of the work sites along the whole length of the canal.

Boats to Lacock

This report from 1984 proposes the restoration of part of the western half of the canal to full navigational standards and it's use as a cruising waterway, allowing boats from the Kennet & Avon Canal initially to reach Melksham and the village of Lacock, with later extensions to the towns of Calne, Wootton Bassett, and possibly Chippenham. There are three main reasons why this would be desirable:
1. Enhancement of Cruising on the K&A Canal
2. Economic Benefits
3. Preservation of the Region's Heritage

Dauntsey Lock Canal Settlement

Interest in the important remains at Dauntsey Lock prompted contact with one of the present owners, Mr.Gordon Barnes, in l979. A five year agreement was signed, enabling survey and towpath clearance work to be carried out. The Wharf House was completely surveyed, with photography and measured drawings. This report from 1985 documents the survey and restoration opportunity.
